X-Kart Return to X30 Action at TVKC Round 5 PFI
X-Kart headed to PFI for Round 5 of the Trent Valley Kart Club (TVKC), with Riley Bishop making a return to the X30 class for the first time since joining the team in 2024. The UK’s premier outdoor circuit is one of the fastest and most demanding on the national calendar, and with some time needed to readjust to the X30 package after a period away from the class, the weekend became a story of building pace session by session before delivering when it mattered most in the final.
Senior X30
Practice
Friday practice gave Riley the time needed to shake off the rust and start finding a rhythm with the X30 again. The feel for the kart took a few sessions to come back, but the pace built progressively throughout the day and by the end of practice the signs were positive heading into the competitive sessions. PFI’s long straights and fast, flowing layout rewards drivers who are fully committed through the high-speed sections, and Riley was getting closer to that level with each run.
Qualifying
Qualifying produced a P15, a result that didn’t fully reflect the pace Riley had been building across practice. The session was disrupted by the kind of traffic that can cost time around a circuit where clean air is so important to a fast lap, and the grid position left more work to do across the heats than the team had hoped for. The raw pace was there, it was a case of getting everything together in the same lap.
Heats
Heat 1 showed encouraging progress. Riley worked through the field to cross the line P8, showing the pace that qualifying had not fully captured, but penalties applied post-race dropped him to P26 in the final classification and undid much of that hard work. It was a frustrating outcome for a performance that had shown clear improvement from qualifying.
Heat 2 was run in torrential rain that transformed the circuit entirely, turning the race into a test of composure and consistency rather than outright speed. Conditions were difficult for everyone, and making it through cleanly became the priority. Riley came through to finish P7 in what was one of the most challenging sessions of the weekend, showing the composure needed to manage the conditions and bring the kart home in a strong position.
Final
The final was where Riley’s pace was most clearly on show. Starting from P16, he set fastest lap and worked his way methodically through the field over the course of the race, climbing to finish P8 at the flag. The speed to run significantly higher up the order was evident throughout, and the recovery drive from well down the grid to inside the top ten was one of the more complete performances of the day.
