XKART Conquer GYG: Victory, Progress and a Whole Lot of Grit
The third round of the 2025 Kart Championship for XKART at Glan Y Gors (GYG) wasn’t just a race weekend, it was a test of nerve, skill and development. For XKART, it was also a chance to prove that a team built on belief, guidance and pure graft can deliver both silverware and standout performances.
Nestled in the stunning Welsh landscape, the GYG circuit delivered all the usual thrills. Tight corners, fast straights, and a field packed with talent. But through it all, the XKART drivers held their own, and then some.
Sumner Shines: A Clean Sweep in Junior Rotax
Let’s talk about Lewis Sumner, because what a weekend he had. From the very first lap on Friday to the last chequered flag on Sunday, Lewis was in total command. He topped both Heats, the Super Heat and the Final, securing P1 in dominant fashion in the Junior Rotax class. Calm under pressure and razor-sharp behind the wheel, this result has been building for a while and it’s a joy to see it all come together for him.
Racing Smart, Racing Strong
Behind the outright win, the strength of the team was equally evident.
Jameson showed exactly why he’s turning heads in Rotax. With fast laps and mature moves, he crossed the line in 6th in the Final, a massive statement from a driver still relatively new to the class. His energy off the track and focus on it make him one of the most exciting all-rounders in the paddock.
Zak Jennings showed real growth this weekend, executing clever overtakes and racing with clarity and intent. He worked his way to a well-earned 2nd place in the Final, a result that reflects not just pace, but a smart and thoughtful approach to racing.
Jack Bishop (Bish) was one of the standout stories of the weekend. With no Friday testing, he hit the ground running on Saturday and looked on course for a top-four finish. Unfortunately, a post-race penalty dropped him to 8th, but it was a performance full of composure and class. That top result is coming, no doubt.
Pushing Through and Moving Up
Elijah Hartley delivered another strong weekend of development, finishing 13th in the Final. His ability to absorb feedback and adjust quickly is a huge asset, and the confidence he’s building lap by lap is clear for all to see.
Zac Cain continues to show what quiet determination can do. Consistent throughout the heats, Zac finished 15th, showing once again that persistence and attitude are just as valuable as raw speed. It’s only a matter of time before it all comes together at once.
Lewis Holt had a weekend that showed the promise bubbling under the surface. After an encouraging practice pace, he finished 14th in the Final, a result that doesn’t tell the whole story of his fight through the pack. His progress is tracking exactly where it needs to be.
Cooper took 22nd in the Final, and while the results page might not shout about it, his resilience spoke volumes. He dealt with some tough technical sessions with maturity and refused to give anything less than 100 percent. That mindset will take him far.
Hazelwood Hits Gold in Primo
In Rotax Junior Primo, Elijah Hazelwood delivered an exceptional drive all weekend, sharp, focused and fast in all the right places. He stormed to 1st place in the Final, building on a strong set of heats and proving again why he’s one of the rising stars to watch this season. This wasn’t just a win, it was a masterclass in kart control and competitive mindset.
Every Lap Matters
What made GYG so special wasn’t just the trophies, it was the team’s ability to face challenges, adapt and rise. From podium winners to those pushing through tough grids, every XKART driver left the weekend with more experience, more skill, and more fire for the next round.
These are the weekends that build champions, not just through silverware, but through shared ambition, hard-earned lessons and team-first racing.
